1966 Pontiac GTO Convertible: A Classic Reimagined by Original Parts Group and CPP

At this year’s event, Jeff Farina from Original Parts Group (OPGI) proudly unveiled a stunning 1966 Pontiac GTO convertible, built to showcase the wide range of products offered through the OPGI catalog. The goal was simple but ambitious, to build a car that highlighted not just the beauty of a classic GTO, but also the depth and quality of the components that make it come alive again.

“The goal with this car was to showcase all the different variety of products that we offer through the Original Parts Group catalog,” Jeff explained.
From trim and body panels to performance upgrades, this convertible represents the perfect blend of restoration and innovation, proof that a classic can stay true to its roots while embracing modern performance technology.

Partnering with CPP for Performance and Precision

To bring the build to life, Original Parts Group teamed up with Classic Performance Products (CPP),  a long-time partner known for engineering reliable, bolt-on solutions for classic GM, Ford, and Mopar vehicles. “CPP has been a partner of ours for a long time. We really enjoy working with them, they make some quality products,” said Jeff.

From engine mounts to the transmission crossmember, CPP components played a key role in ensuring the GTO’s modern LS powertrain fit and functioned flawlessly. Each part was engineered to simplify installation, minimize fabrication, and deliver the strength and alignment needed for high-performance builds.

The LS Conversion: A First for OPGI

While OPGI is best known for factory-correct restorations, this project marked an exciting milestone, their first-ever LS swap. “It’s the first time we’ve ever put an LS engine into one of our builds,” Jeff said. “Most of the time our builds are restored to factory spec, so this is the first time we’ve done a resto-mod type build.”

The CPP LS Install Kit provided everything needed for a smooth and professional conversion, complete with detailed instructions, hardware, and precision-fit design. This system allowed OPGI’s team to maintain OEM-like fitment while enjoying modern reliability and power.

Built to Drive, Built to Inspire

This 1966 GTO convertible isn’t just a show car — it’s a statement. It represents what happens when two industry leaders collaborate to blend heritage with high-performance innovation. The end result is a timeless muscle car that looks factory fresh but performs like a modern-day cruiser.

With the combination of OPGI’s restoration expertise and CPP’s engineering, this GTO proves that resto-mods can respect their roots while embracing what’s next.
