Customer Questions
Can I use this gear box on a 71 C20?
Yes. GM used the same mounting pattern and gear box on all of the 1967-1972 ½ ton, ¾ ton, and 1 ton trucks.
Why does it say 67-72 but you sell it for 63-66 also. Is it a different box?
No. You still get the CPP 500 Series steering box, it just requires an adapter bracket (6366PSK) to install it on the 63-66 frame as the frame was not made to accommodate a power steering gear box.
Do I need to buy a special pitman arm to use this box?
The CP50014 steering box is made to be used with stock GM power steering splined pitman arm. If you are converting from manual to power, a new pitman arm is required. If you are upgrading your old power steering box, the original pitman arm will work...
Is 500 steering box more narrow than stock 69 impala
Our CPP 500 Series Power Steering Gearbox will be narrowed a bit at the adjusting sector section but overall pretty similar in size compared to the original. Please call our tech line if you need measurement.
Do I need to change the rag joint to fit the steering column spline?
If you currently have anything other than ¾” by 30 spline rag joint then you will need to change the rag joint.
