The Wilwood Street Performance FDL Big Brake Front Hub Kit (part #140-10440-DR) is made to deliver increased braking power and improved heat management for classic 1974–1980 Ford Pinto and 1974–1978 Mustang II models with disc brake five-lug setups. This system features large 12.19” vented rotors that reduce brake fade during repeated or aggressive stops and forged billet Dynalite callipers for reliable clamping force and low weight. The included premium BP-10 street performance pads provide a strong initial response and good wear, while the hardware—grease-sealed high-temperature bearings, quality fasteners, and dust caps—ensures dependable, long-term performance. Designed for custom builds that require improved stopping power to match upgraded wheels and suspension, this kit is suitable for both repeated street use and occasional track days. INSTALLATION DETAILS

Installing the kit involves removing the original front brakes, mounting calliper brackets to the spindle, and installing new wheel studs, bearings, grease seals, and the rotor/hub assembly. The calliper is shimmed for correct rotor alignment and then mounted with provided hardware and pads. Brake hoses must be replaced with Wilwood-compatible steel braided lines (OEM hoses do not fit). All fasteners are torqued to specified values with a threadlocker, and the brake system must be bled thoroughly. Bear in mind that installation should be performed by someone familiar with disc brake systems, and bearings must be adjusted to the original equipment manufacturer's (OEM) specifications. Ensure .080” or greater wheel-to-caliper clearance and test system operation before road use.

FACTORY FIT NOTES

This kit fits 1974–1980 Ford Pinto and 1974–1978 Mustang II models with disc brake five-lug configuration only. It supports 5 x 4.50 and 5 x 4.75 lug patterns. Wheel clearance must be checked to guarantee at least .080” between the calliper and the wheel. OEM brake hoses are not compatible and must be replaced. A wheel spacer (Wilwood P/N 300-11961) may be required if your wheel overhangs the hub face. The installer is responsible for confirming fit and fastener engagement specific to their vehicle and wheel setup.
