The Wilwood Street Performance FDL Big Brake Front Hub Kit (Part #140-12022-DR) is made for upgrading 1965–1968 Chevrolet Impalas with front drum spindles. This kit improves brake performance by using forged billet Dynalite callipers, which are lightweight and strong. The 12.19” drilled and slotted rotors provide greater brake power and better cooling compared to stock equipment. High-friction Wilwood BP-10 pads give more responsive stopping, while vented rotors help reduce heat during heavy braking. The kit includes new durable hubs, wheel studs, high-quality bearings, and all-fitting hardware. Designed to be a direct bolt-on for drum spindle cars, it allows you to upgrade braking performance without requiring major spindle modifications.

INSTALLATION SUMMARY

Start by confirming your Impala has drum spindles and check wheel clearance for the larger setup. Remove the existing brake components down to the bare spindle. Install the supplied calliper mounting brackets onto the spindle, using shims as needed. Press new studs into the hubs, grease the bearings, and assemble the rotor and hub to the spindle. Secure the calliper in position so it is properly centred, then install the high-friction pads. Compatible flexible brake lines are needed, as the originals will not fit. Bleed the brakes, starting with the calliper farthest from the master cylinder. Follow proper bedding procedures for the new rotors and pads before driving.

FACTORY FIT NOTES

This kit fits only 1965–1968 Impalas that used factory drum brake front spindles. It will not fit disc brake spindles. Check wheel fitment carefully—some wheels may not clear the larger brake components. This kit uses a 5 x 4.75" wheel pattern; verify that this matches your wheels. Minor trimming of the drum spindle may be needed for calliper bracket clearance, but avoid altering any mounting holes. Wilwood flexline kits are required, as the original brake hoses will not work. Installation could change the track width of your front wheels. Installation should be done by those familiar with classic car brake upgrades.
