Customer Questions
How do I know which port is pressure and return?
With CPP gear boxes and most boxes on the market, the return port is always closest to the input shaft.
Do I need to buy a special pitman arm to use with this 500 Series Gear Box (Part # CP50000-2)?
The CP50000-2 steering box works with your original pitman arm off of the manual steering box. But we do recommend replacing it with a 5557PA-M if it shows signs of wear.
Can I keep my headers when converting from manual to power?
Most headers sold today are made to work with 500 series and 605 steering boxes. We recommend checking with your header manufacture for compatibility with our CPP 500 Series Gear Box (Part # CP50000-2).
How do I know which is the pressure port?
The pressure port is the larger, 11/16-18, port and sits higher on the casting.
Is 500 steering box more narrow than stock 69 impala
Our CPP 500 Series Power Steering Gearbox will be narrowed a bit at the adjusting sector section but overall pretty similar in size compared to the original. Please call our tech line if you need measurement.
are the GM type II pumps that come with the serpentine belt systems compatible with this gearbox
Our gearbox require a minimum pressure of 1200psi coming from the pump and most GM type 2 pump do provide adequate pressures. Please reach out to the manufacture of the serpentine belt system to make sure that the pump they provide will put out enough...
